In 1965 a young woman, Eva Samuel Martin returned to her birthplace of Rome, GA to begin a second career in education after completing her work at Clark College, now known as Clark-Atlanta University. She became the principal at Main Elementary School but was somewhat unhappy because there was not a graduate chapter of her sorority in the city. She immediately started to fulfill her dream by organizing a chapter of Delta women from Rome (Floyd County) and neighboring counties (Bartow and Polk). 

Rome Alumnae Chapter was chartered on January 15, 1966 by ten Deltas and two initiates. 

These women used their collective skills to cultivate and educate the community on political, educational, cultural, economic and social areas. Their vision was in accord with those of our Founders and we carry the torch today to continue working in these areas. We are a group of activist women, combining the commitment to education and scholarship with a clear notion that we can and must help to change things.
