Notable Members

  • Barbara S. Cothran, published author of “From the Peach Fields to Becoming A University Professor”.

  • Evelyn Hamilton-one of the first African Americans to enroll and receive a degree from Berry College 

  • Lois Bryant-first Media Specialist in Rome City School System. 

  • Louise Houser-first African American Nursing Homeowner in the City of Rome.

  • Dr. Susie Wheeler-of Bartow County, first to receive a Ph.D. in education 

  • Carolyn Johnson-Cartersville City School Board Member Ward Seat 5

  • Barbara G. (Holt) Ford was the first African American bank teller hired by First National Bank of Rome, GA in January 1970. The bank building is located on the corner of 2nd Avenue and Broad Street.

  • Shirley Mosley - first licensed African American Real Estate agent in Calhoun, Gordon County in 1979 and first licensed African American Real Estate Broker in Calhoun in 2005.

  • Kathy Sinclair -  The first black, female investigator in the history of the Bartow County Sheriff's Office hired in 2017.
